  Our natural gas patio firepit produced a beautiful but monotonous blue flame, betraying the underlying four burner arrangement even when we added additional glass fire beads. Steel firelogs from Ultimate Mountain Living made the firepit much more interesting. The handmade logs, each unique, add sculptural interest to the pit even without a flame. Add gas and you get a more colorful blue and orange flame that eddys through the knotholes and bark-like vents, with red-hot highlights to boot. The steel firelogs do not so much make the fire look more like real burning wood -- they give it an entirely new aesthetic -- patio art, not just a fake wood fire.
